Sylvia’s Baby Daddy

Special Agent Austin Williams pulled up in front of the circular drive of Parker Drayton’s casually impressive beach house. He shook his head ruefully. He was definitely in the wrong business.

He rang the bell and waited, his badge at the ready.

“Yes?”

“Katherine Shipton?” An unnecessary question from his perspective, of course, but she didn’t need to know he knew her name, social security number and clothing sizes right down to lingerie. Not right now, anyway.

“Yes, can I help you?”

He flipped open the leather case holding his badge.

“Special Agent Austin Williams. I need to speak with you, Ms. Shipton.”

“Special—Parker! Has something happened to Parker?!” Her face drained of color and she swayed on her feet. Concern? Or shock that the DEA was on her doorstep this quickly?

“If I could come in—”

“Oh! Oh, of course! Please!” She opened the door and motioned him inside. Feminine laughter floated out into the foyer.

“You have guests? This is rather private, Ms. Shipton—”

“My aunt and my best friend. We’ve been doing wedding prep stuff. We’ll go in the office.”

“Katherine? Are you all right, dear?”

“I’m fine, Aunt Lillian, I’ll be back with you in a few minutes.” She closed the double doors of the office behind them. “At least, I sure hope I’ll be back with them in a few minutes. Please tell me what’s wrong. Something’s got to be for a Special Agent—I’m sorry, what agency are you with? I didn’t even notice.”

“DEA, ma’am. Let’s sit down.”

Katherine walked to the sofa. “DEA? But this just gets—if Parker was in an accident, shouldn’t the police be here? No, that’s crazy, he’s in Houston. His father would call me! Unless—oh, my God! He’s not dead, please tell me he’s not dead?”
